Day 2 on the island and I am already beginning to settle into my new home. Today I woke up and was in search of an apartment! I like my personal space and had zero interest in sharing that dorm room with anyone else! After only a few stops I noticed that the apartment complex that I was hoping to get to see no longer had a no vacancy sign out in front of it YEA! After getting a tour, I decided that this was where I would call home. The building is called "Caribbean Dream Apartments" and it is only about a 5 minute walk to the dive shop. $450 for the month plus electricity and I now have a home :o) The apartment comes with Internet and cable tv, which is a really great perk.
It's a fairly small apartment, but I really don't need much space. If I had to guess I'd say it is about 450 - 500 square feet. I have two rooms plus a bathroom. The main room is a living room/kitchen combo. With a love seat, chair, TV, apartment sized fridge, range top, microwave and sink. My bedroom has two single beds and a small dresser. The bathroom is exactly what you would expect, toilet, shower and sink. I also have a private balcony out back where I can hang stuff to dry. I'll try to post a few photos tomorrow, but I have to take them first.
Electricity is metered, and I'll be paying 7.75 Honduras Limpiras per Kilowatt. I can see my own meter, which is good so I'll be able to monitor my usage so I don't have a nasty surprise. I've had the A/C on a bit today, and it was nice. I probably wont need to use it much. Just sometimes during the heat of the day, when I'm not diving. Last night I found that the island had a very good breeze, and I slept quite well in the dorm room without A/C. I'm hoping that this apartment catches the breeze, so I won't have to run it at night at all.
I postponed my 1st tune-up dive until tomorrow. I was just too hot and tired after running around finding an apartment, plus I wanted to have the time to move my stuff in and to go shopping for some necessaries (Toilet paper, dish soap, bottles of water, etc) I'm a bit nervous about getting out to dive, as I've mostly only ever dove with the same buddies. (Hi Jeff, Em, Jarred & Eddie!!! - Miss you guys!!) I'm sure it will be all good once I get into the water. I'm meeting up with one of the instructors tomorrow (can't remember his name) and we will go over some of the academics then get out for a tune-up dive. Turns out that he's from Toronto!! Such a small world. I wonder what the chances of me seeing a turtle on my 1st dive are?? :O) fingers crossed!!!
